What is Olimp Carbonox®?

Olimp Carbonox® is a carbohydrate complex supplement in powder form developed by Olimp Sport Nutrition — one of Poland's leading pharmaceutical-grade sports nutrition manufacturers. Each 50g serving (1 scoop) delivers 47.5g of carbohydrates from three distinct sources — maltodextrins, glucose and isomaltulose — alongside 500mg of L-arginine HCl, a complete vitamin complex covering all 13 essential vitamins (A, B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B12, C, D, E, biotin, folate) and a full mineral complex including calcium, magnesium, iron, manganese, selenium, chromium, molybdenum and iodine.

The defining feature of Carbonox® is its triple carbohydrate architecture. The three sources operate at different glycaemic indices and absorption rates: glucose provides the most rapid blood glucose rise and immediate energy delivery; maltodextrins provide a slightly more sustained release at a high GI; and isomaltulose — a naturally occurring disaccharide sourced from beet sugar — provides a significantly slower, lower-GI glucose and fructose delivery that extends the carbohydrate absorption curve well beyond the fast sources. This multi-speed profile provides a first wave of rapid glycogen replenishment (glucose, maltodextrins) followed by a sustained carbohydrate supply (isomaltulose) that prevents the premature energy dip associated with single-source fast carbohydrate products.

The EU-authorised health claim for carbohydrates and muscle function recovery applies directly to Carbonox®: carbohydrates contribute to the recovery of normal muscle function (contraction) after very intense and/or prolonged exercise resulting in muscle fatigue and depletion of glycogen stores. The benefit is obtained by consuming carbohydrates from all sources at a total dose of 4g per kg of body weight, in fractions starting within the first 4 hours after exercise and no later than 6 hours after exercise.

Available in 1000g (20 servings) and 3500g (70 servings) in three flavours: Lemon, Strawberry and Pineapple.

⚡ Triple carbohydrate blend — multi-speed energy and glycogen replenishment

The maltodextrins + glucose + isomaltulose blend provides carbohydrate energy across three distinct absorption timelines. Glucose provides the fastest blood glucose rise — immediate energy replenishment within 15 to 30 minutes. Maltodextrins provide a rapid but slightly more sustained high-GI energy wave. Isomaltulose — a low-GI, slow-release disaccharide derived from beet sugar — provides a sustained carbohydrate supply for 2 to 3 hours after consumption, extending the energy and glycogen replenishment window well beyond what fast-only carbohydrate products can achieve. This staggered absorption profile mirrors the carbohydrate strategy used in professional endurance sports nutrition.

🏃 EU-authorised health claim — muscle function recovery after intense exercise

Carbonox® is formulated to support the EU-authorised health claim for carbohydrates and post-exercise muscle function recovery: carbohydrates contribute to the recovery of normal muscle function after very intense and/or prolonged exercise that causes muscle fatigue and glycogen depletion. The recommended protocol is 4g of carbohydrates per kg of body weight, in fractions starting within the first 4 hours and no later than 6 hours after intense exercise. At 47.5g of carbohydrates per 50g serving, Carbonox® is the most efficient single-serving vehicle for achieving this target dose.

🔬 L-arginine HCl — NO precursor for post-exercise blood flow

Each 50g serving provides 500mg of L-arginine HCl (410mg pure L-arginine). L-arginine is the direct precursor to nitric oxide production — supporting vasodilation and increased blood flow to muscles during the recovery phase. The inclusion of L-arginine in a carbohydrate recovery product is synergistic: improved peripheral blood flow enhances the delivery of both the replenishment carbohydrates and any protein consumed alongside Carbonox® to depleted muscle tissue.

💊 Complete vitamin complex — 13 vitamins in every serving

The full vitamin matrix in Carbonox® covers vitamins A, B1 (thiamine), B2 (riboflavin), B3 (niacin), B5 (pantothenic acid), B6, B12, C, D, E, biotin and folate — all at 40% of the EU NRV per 100g serving, scaling to 80% at 200g. B vitamins carry EU-authorised health claims for contributing to normal energy-yielding metabolism, normal protein and glycogen metabolism and the reduction of tiredness and fatigue — directly relevant to the recovery context in which Carbonox® is consumed. Vitamin C contributes to normal collagen formation and reduction of oxidative stress from exercise.

⚗️ Full mineral complex — 8 minerals for complete electrolyte and metabolic support

The mineral complex provides calcium (22% NRV), magnesium (22% NRV), iron (86% NRV), manganese (100% NRV), selenium (15% NRV), chromium (188% NRV), molybdenum (15% NRV) and iodine (50% NRV) per 100g serving. Chromium at 188% NRV per 100g serving carries the EU-authorised health claim for contributing to the maintenance of normal blood glucose levels — directly relevant to the blood glucose management context of high-carbohydrate post-workout nutrition. Magnesium and calcium support normal muscle function and bone maintenance.

🎯 Goal guide

🏃 Endurance performance: 2 to 4 servings post-exercise. Rapid glycogen replenishment for multi-session training days, cycling, running and team sports.

🏋️ Mass gain: 2 to 3 servings per day pre and post-workout. High-calorie carbohydrate loading under a caloric surplus with full vitamin and mineral support.

⚖️ Body recomposition: 1 to 2 servings post-workout. Targeted glycogen replenishment in the recovery window without general carbohydrate overloading.

Serving suggestion

Add 1 serving (50g = 1 scoop) to 100 to 200ml of water — adjust the water quantity according to desired taste intensity. Mix or shake well. Consume 2 to 4 servings per day depending on training frequency, intensity and body weight.

Post-exercise glycogen replenishment protocol (EU health claim)

Best times to enjoy it

⏰ 30 minutes before training

Pre-exercise carbohydrate loading with Carbonox® provides immediately available glucose (from the glucose and maltodextrin fractions) for the session's opening intensity phase, alongside a sustained isomaltulose-driven carbohydrate supply that extends available blood glucose through longer sessions.

🏋️ Immediately after training (primary recovery window)

The most critical timing for glycogen replenishment: muscle glycogen resynthesis rate is at its highest in the 30 to 60 minutes immediately following exercise, when GLUT4 transporters are maximally active and muscle cell insulin sensitivity is elevated. Consuming Carbonox® immediately after training maximises the rate at which depleted muscle glycogen stores are replenished.

🕐 Within 6 hours post-exercise (extended recovery window)

For athletes with high training volumes who require continued glycogen loading after the immediate post-exercise window, Carbonox® can be consumed across multiple servings over the 4 to 6 hours following intense exercise — in line with the EU-authorised protocol for carbohydrate-mediated muscle function recovery.

Q1 — What is the difference between the three carbohydrate sources in Carbonox®?

The three sources operate at different absorption speeds and glycaemic indices. Glucose is the fastest: it requires no digestion and enters the bloodstream almost immediately, providing the most rapid blood glucose rise and the fastest stimulus for insulin-driven muscle glycogen resynthesis. Maltodextrins are chains of glucose molecules that are rapidly digested (high GI, slightly slower than pure glucose) and provide the main bulk of the fast carbohydrate fraction. Isomaltulose is a naturally occurring disaccharide from beet sugar that is digested more slowly in the small intestine (low GI), releasing glucose and fructose gradually over 2 to 3 hours. Together, the three sources create a staggered blood glucose supply — an immediate peak from glucose, sustained high levels from maltodextrins, and a prolonged tail from isomaltulose — that covers the entire post-exercise recovery window.

Q2 — Why is Carbonox® not suitable for diabetics?

Carbonox® contains 95g of carbohydrates per 100g — including 25g of fast-absorbing sugars (glucose, isomaltulose-derived sugars) alongside maltodextrins. For individuals with diabetes (type 1 or type 2), this carbohydrate load and the associated rapid blood glucose rise cannot be safely managed without medical supervision. The chromium in the mineral complex carries an EU-authorised claim for normal blood glucose levels, but this does not make the product safe for diabetics — it is explicitly excluded on the product label. Diabetic athletes who require carbohydrate supplementation should consult their physician or diabetologist for individually tailored protocols.

Q3 — What is the EU health claim for carbohydrates and muscle function recovery?

The EU-authorised health claim (Regulation 432/2012) states: carbohydrates contribute to the recovery of normal muscle function (contraction) after very intense and/or prolonged physical exercise causing muscle fatigue and depletion of glycogen stores in skeletal muscles. To qualify for this benefit, carbohydrates from all sources must be consumed at a total dose of 4g per kg of body weight, in fractions starting within the first 4 hours after exercise and no later than 6 hours after exercise. This means Carbonox® servings count alongside food carbohydrates consumed in the recovery window — not in isolation.

Q4 — Can Carbonox® be used before training as well as after?

Yes. Olimp specifically recommends consuming Carbonox® 30 minutes before training or just after exercise. Pre-workout use provides a rapid carbohydrate energy supply (glucose and maltodextrins for immediate and sustained energy) alongside the slower isomaltulose fraction that maintains available blood glucose through the session, reducing mid-session fatigue and sustaining training quality in longer workouts. Post-workout use targets glycogen replenishment in the critical recovery window.

Q5 — Which format should I choose — 1000g or 3500g?

The formula and flavour are identical in both formats. The 1000g format (20 servings) is appropriate for athletes who want to trial a flavour, use Carbonox® for a specific training block, or prefer to rotate between flavours. The 3500g format (70 servings) is significantly more economical per serving and is the preferred choice for athletes who use Carbonox® consistently as their primary carbohydrate supplement — at 2 servings per day, the 3500g format provides 35 days of supply.
